The Spiritual Struggle
In this brief address, Imam Zaid discusses how the essence of our humanity transcends our physical composition. It is through the heart, spirit, and soul that the human is distinguished and rendered unique in creation. To maintain that uniqueness it is important for us to remain conscious of what it means to carry the banner of Islam. The Imam reminds us that life passes quickly and it is very easy to enter upon a slippery slope of sin that we may not be able to recover from. We have to struggle to maintain our Islam, which is the essence of our humanity. Struggle though is nothing new for a believer. One aspect of our struggle as Muslims is our struggle to stay in touch with those who preceded us on this path. Our connectedness to them is a source of strength for us. That connectedness lies in part in respecting the institutions that they built and then using our spiritual strength to render those institutions relevant in our day and time.

as always I enjoy hearing you elaborate, especially on the topic of our stuggle to maintain the integrity of Islam.
I live in the netherlands and i see around me more and more young people who turn to islam. So there is hope. Unfortunately the is a lot of crime and bad behaviour from muslim youth (boys) as well. There is a lot that needs to been done in learning how to raise children…

I just found this site. It is very interesting to hear, preachings, talks, discussions in the English Language. I come from Malaysia. I am an English Language teacher at univesity level. I hope to get more talks like this. I can use these tapes to discuss Islam among non-muslims. May Allah keep this site forever.
