As we enter our second Ramadan of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have been
blessed in innumerable ways. Despite the tremendous losses resulting
from the pandemic, when compared to other scourges such as the 1918
Spanish Flu (so-called), the smallpox contagion that wiped out most of
the populations of the Americas and the Caribbean, or the Great Bubonic
Plague of the mid-fourteenth Century, we have much to be thankful for.
The losses from these scourges are exponentially greater than what we
have experienced from Covid-19, may Allah eradicate it soon. This is
just a small example of the many things we should thank our Lord for. As
we proceed through this great month of fasting, prayer, and Qur’an, let
us continuously give thanks. This is fitting because as we know the
verses in the Qur’an that mention Ramadan conclude with, “…in order that
you give thanks (2:185).” May we all have a thankful Ramadan. Ramadan
Mubarak!
